Ken Whalen practices as a Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator and Arbitrator in the areas of personal injury, insurance law, mass tort, and railroad injury litigation. He is also qualified in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District. He has handled appeals in the Florida Second District Court of Appeal, Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals, the Florida Supreme Court, and the Pennsylvania Superior Court.
Ken has been certified as a Circuit Court Mediator since 1993 and completed his Arbitration training in 2016.
He has lectured on various topics, including torts, insurance coverage, rental car litigation, Circuit Court costs, professionalism, and ethics. He has over 40 years experience in the practice of personal injury law, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, including serving as Staff Counsel for The Travelers and Continental Insurance Companies. He most recently was a member of Murray, Morin & Herman, P.A., a aviation and personal injury defense firm with offices in Tampa and Miami.
He is committed to his profession.
Mr. Whalen is a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, The Florida Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar (Retired Status), and the American Arbitration Association. He has served on the Civil Procedure Rules Committee of The Florida Bar. He is rated AV by Martindale Hubbell. He was an active participant in the American Inns of Court, which has a mission of fostering excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills for judges, lawyers, academicians, and students of law in order to perfect the quality, availability, and efficiency of justice in the United States. He was designated as a Master in the Tampa Bay Inn and served as an officer and on the executive committee.
Ken believes in community service.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Hillsborough County Friends of the Parks, the Hillsborough County Commission Citizens Advisory Committee, the Hillsborough County Transportation Task Force, the Hillsborough County Parks Bond Steering Committee, as a founder and President of the Council of Northwest Hillsborough Civic Associations. In 2002 he was a candidate for Circuit Judge in Hillsborough County.
